Camp Director and Staff

Camp Haverim knows that the success of any camp rests squarely on the shoulders of its staff, counselors and supervisors. That is why we go to great lengths to get the very best!

Sarah PoratCamp Director

Sarah Porat is very excited to return to Camp Haverim in Summer 2020 for her second year as Camp Director! She has been involved with Camp Haverim as a parent of 3 campers, ages 6, 6, & 8, and as a board member for the past 3 years.

Previous camp experiences include directing Camp Isaiah, a Jewish Day Camp in Los Angeles, and attending URJ Camp Swig & Newman for 20 years, as a camper, counselor, and advisor to the teen leadership program. Other leadership experiences include serving as Preschool Trustee to the CBB Board of Trustees for 3 years.

During the year, Sarah is a therapist at UCSB, supporting college students as they navigate transitions, mental health, and the many demands of college life.

Sarah is excited to get outdoors this summer and share in the magic of Jewish camp with Camp Haverim campers & staff!

Sarah is a Jewish camping enthusiast and loves everything about camp, especially shira (singing) and Maccabiah Games!

What does a camp director do?

Oversees the general operations of camp, ensures the safety and well-being of campers, runs programming, and has fun with the kids!

What do you hope to accomplish as camp director? I am looking forward to building upon existing programming for younger campers and creating new leadership opportunities for our 6th and 7th grade campers.

What is it about Camp Haverim that interests you? As a parent and board member, I have been very impressed by the program offered by Camp Haverim and by the leadership under Itzik Ben Sasson. I’m excited to bring my love of Jewish Camp to this program!

How has camp influenced your life? Attending camp from a young age through adulthood has laid the foundation for a strong Jewish identity and community involvement. I met many of my closest friends at Jewish camp!

Will you be present every day at camp?

Yes! I will arrive at Cate School every morning to welcome the bus and campers who are dropped off directly at Cate School.

How can you be contacted for questions and suggestions?

Please feel free to call or email me directly
