Camp Haverim knows that the success or failure of any camp rests squarely on the shoulders of its staff, counselors and supervisors, so we go to great lengths to get the very best!!
Leah Savage, Camp Director
Leah is so excited to spend her ninth summer working at Camp Haverim! Leah grew up in Santa Barbara as a member of Congregation B’nai Brith, and she spent each summer from 4th grade through 8th grade attending Jewish sleepaway camps. She has loved to return to a Jewish summer camp each summer, and just like when she was a child looking forward to the next summer at camp, she is already counting down until July 16! After four years of working as a counselor with kids ranging from age 4 to 13, Leah will be focusing on creating fun programs for the kids this summer, as well as helping out with each age group where needed. Leah spent six years studying at UCLA. She began as an undergraduate majoring in history, and then received a Master’s degree from the Department of Education. When camp is not in session, Leah now lives in Long Island working on her PhD at Stony Brook University.
Diana McGee, Camp Assistant Director
Eric Capelle, Program Director
Eric is pumped to take on the challenge of Programming Director this year at Camp Haverim! He has worked as a senior counselor for four years, served as the head song leader for five years, spent time as both a counselor in training and junior counselor, and fondly remembers his years as a camper since Shemesh! As a Santa Barbara local and Congregation B’nai B’rith member, Eric has to lead many services for the congregation, a couple bar-mitzvah(s) for the Jewish Federation as well as his family, and had spent three years revitalizing SBORTY, the CBB youth group, during his high school years. He will have finished his degree in Vocal Performance from Oklahoma City University in the Spring of 2018 and is excited to take a couple years off of academia to prepare for a five-year marathon studying to become a Cantor at the Hebrew Union College in New York. Eric is beyond ready to move back to Santa Barbara and can’t think of any better way to start off his post-undergraduate adventure than by taking on the opportunity to help the campers and staff of Camp Haverim grow to their greatest potential.
Our senior counselors are predominantly college students. Many of our staff are themselves former campers. They care about our campers, and it show! All our senior staff required to pass a criminal background check and complete training in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
